Happy Birthday My Sweet Baby Girl
It’s hard to believe a year has passed since Maya joined our family. Her birth was supposed to be much less dramatic than her brother’s. With Tristan I was in labour for almost 3 days and it ended in a c-section. Maya was breech and we had a scheduled section. Boy did she have a different plan. Four days before the section I started spotting. We went into triage and they discovered I had a placental abruption; the placenta was breaking off of my uterus, which can be life threatening both to mom and babe. Mine was minor though. But my Dr. decided to keep me at the hospital and moved up the section date. Of course everyone had planned on being at the hospital for August 1 and we had family coming to take care of Tristan. So at the last minute we had to scramble to get someone to watch Tristan while Odum got me all settled in at the hospital and then call his mom to see if she could come from Sudbury a day early. Luckily she was able to.
Tristan’s First Speech Therapy Session
Today was Tristan’s day of speech therapy and he did great! Our speech language pathologist (SLP) is starting him on the picture exchange communication system (PECS). Basically Tristan has to give her a picture of an item in order to play with it. For example, she had bubbles and Tristan had to give her the little card with bubbles on it before she would blow the bubbles. She would also hold up two cards with different items on them and he would choose what he wanted, like bubbles or the shape sorter. Let me tell you this kid loves bubbles!
7 Reasons Why You Should Get Rid Of Your Car
One of the first things that came to my mind when Andrea and I decided to move towards a green lifestyle was ditching our car for some bikes and a carrier for the kids. After all, personal vehicles are responsible for 25% of all global warming pollutants entering our atmosphere and if we are going to go green we might as well tackle our biggest offender first.
How It All Got Started
Looking back thinking about how the idea for this blog got started its funny how things came together. Back around Christmas time Odum and I were talking about becoming more environmentally conscious and eco-friendly. We talked about things that we needed to do better not just for the environment but for our kids and their future. We wondered why we, and other people, didn’t do more green things in our daily life and came up with two answers, time and money. So we decided to quit talking and start acting. And while we were at it, why not start a blog and share all our crazy adventures?
What My Family Means To Me
Over the past couple days I’ve been brainstorming with a few ideas of what I should write for my first post. I’ve been going back and forth between wanting to write about my stance on the environment or about our first big green family adventure. But when it came right down to it, I just knew I had to talk about my family and what they mean to me. I must apologize in advance as this post is personal in nature, but without my family this blog would not be possible and it wouldn’t be fitting to start off this blog without acknowledging them first.
