Autism Spectrum Disorder Part II: Why Go Green?

Why Go Green

In part one I discussed the history of autism; how until recently it was such a rare disease and I touched on the approach to treatment. In this post I’m going to go more in depth into the treatment controversy and how it relates to us going green.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Part I: The History Of Autism

History of AutismThere is a huge controversy raging about autism: about why it occurs and how to treat it. I didn’t truly understand this debate until I read Changing the Course of Autism by Dr. Bryan Jepson (most of the information I’m going to be talking about in this post is from that book). Of course I’d heard the whole vaccines causing autism debate but there is so much more to that discussion than I thought. I feel to fully understand the state of the autism controversy and how it relates to our family going green it’s necessary to understand the history and origins of the diagnosis and treatment of autism. But the most interesting part of the talk was the discussion where many people had some very interesting ideas and questions about farming. And what I found most interesting was a brief discussion of the 100 mile diet.

12 Autism Warning Signs

One of my biggest hopes for this blog is to raise awareness for autism. I feel like we where blindsided when Tristan was diagnosed.

A lot of the behaviors we now know to be typical of autism we thought were just part of who Tristan is, and to a certain degree they are, but they are also because of autism. There are definite warning signs but you won’t read about any of them in your “baby’s first year” books. And unfortunately for us our family doctor was less than helpful to say the least.

Top 5 Tips For Being A Biker Babe

Biker babeWell ok, maybe riding a pedal bike isn’t as sexy as riding a ducati, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look just as good. I’ll be the first one to admit that I was really, really nervous about relying on a bike to get me everywhere. I mean two kids and no car? How are we going to get anything done? After just a week or so of riding the initial shock of hauling my butt everywhere on pedal power wore off and I felt much more comfortable on my new wheels. So I’d like to share these five tips that I had the unfortunate experience of learning the hard way.
