Thanks so much bitsofpretty! I will have to check out those articles for sure.

Aluminum is next on my list to research in terms of being problematic in vaccines. From the little I have done I don't think there has been studies done showing the acceptable level for kids, if there even is one. I love your analogy, its so true. All these chemicals we bring into our homes weren't around 20 years ago. And sadly there is no regulations about testing them to see effects on humans and the environment, its terrible.

Your blog is fantastic Andrea! Have you read or seen these articles regarding toxins?:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/harvey-karp/cracking-the-autism-riddl_b_221202.html

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/harvey-karp/cracking-the-autism-riddl_b_213730.html

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/harvey-karp/cracking-the-autism-riddl_b_219160.html

While I don't believe that vaccines are out of the woods when it comes to blame (as they contain a whole host of toxins including tons of aluminum), I do believe very much in the theory of children being exposed to a toxic cocktail every day.

My new approach to a lot of the flack I get from friends and family for lowering our toxin level around our home, is to answer in as simple a way as possible. I mean, you wouldn't eat febreeze or a glade plug-in would you? Then why inhale that stuff all day long????

I think you are taking a well researched and logical approach to turning "green" and helping Tristan. Way to go!!!!

I didn't realize that the other milks had less lactose.

Kelly I haven't read the horse boy. I actually just watched the trailer for the movie, and was really excited to see it! I didn't realize it was a book though, I'll have to check that out.

Lots of people find goat, sheep and horse milk (although horse milk is illegal in the UK!) better for them than cows milk because it contains less lactose, so if its a lactose intolerance it will work, if its dairy you are allergic to though it won;t make any difference.

Andrea have you read "The horse boy" yet? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Horse-Boy-Fathers-Miraculous-Journey/dp/0670917362 When he is in Mongolia he drinks a lot of horse milk and shows improvements.

Horse milk was becoming popular in holland for clearing up eczema. We had a neighbour with horses who told us about it, and he had the milk :)

Esther that's really interesting. I wonder what it was in the milk that helped. How did your parents know to use it?

Horse milk is really good for children with eczema. My brother had a bad case of eczema (and we lived on a dairy farm and had milk straight from the cows) and the horse milk helped clear it up, no drugs needed

OMG! I can't believe that about your son's eczema! How heartbreaking that must have been for you to have to watch him in all that pain and hear the Drs say no to a specialist. I've really learned through all of this that you have to be so proactive and keep pushing the drs, as you've obviously found out too. And ya we'll never put Tristan on drugs, its just not what he needs. The drugs just mask the behaviour and don't deal with the underlying problem.

I totally agree with you cutting dairy out of Tristans diet!! Think back 30 years ago and milk came from a grass fed cow, wasn't always pasturized. Now you have huge dairy "factory farms" with cows being fed huge amounts of grain with vit and min sups and lots of anti biotics, they are also milked 3 times aday instead of 2 on a lot of farms. The milk is pastureized, treated, run though pipes that have chemical residues still in them (My husband worked in milk packing for a year, he left we went vegan :P)and Drs tell us to drink up!! Its good for your bones!!
When we gave up milk my youngest sons eczema almost went OVERNIGHT! Its a true story that few people believe but I saw it with my own eyes. I ysed to fill out perscriptions for him and my eldest every week....the last one I filled was last year..and I still have the creams left, can't remember the last time I had to cream them up!

You are right to take a holistic aproach and it is narrow minded of your dr to scof at your theories.

When my eldest was a baby with eczema our dr kept sending us away with a basic hydrating cream. HIs legs where so bad they would weep serum and he would cry all night. She told me we couldn;t get an appointment to see a skin specialist. We said no, get us the appointment.
The skin specialist took one look at our baby and gasped "Why is he not on antibiotics! His legs are infected!"
So Drs, even so called experts, do not know everything.
YOU are Tristans Parents and can see improvments, all he could see was a hyper and upset toddler.
Stay off the drugs if you can, I have read many negative stories from parents AND children about them but few positive ones.

Keep up the good work ! x
