We just started methly b12 for my son that is 3. He has sensory processing disorder, and was also pretty much none verbal till I put him on a probiotic a couple months ago. Now he has 50 words. This is what led me to go to a DAN dr and he had us do some testing and prescribed b12. As I said, we just started it yesterday. The only thing I see in my son today is his cheeks look rosey and healthy! He's always been very pale looking with a grey undertone.

Anymore info you could provide would be great!

I didn't like the video because it protrays autism as some sort of monster, like a dragon that has to be slayed. I think dragons, like autism, are something to be understood, something to learn about and learn from, not just to wipe out and crush.
I don't like the way tons of their money goes towards so-called cures and preventions, but not enough towards things that would really help autistic people in the larger world.
For example, why not put some energy into getting rid of the JRC? Stuff like that and these kind of attitudes the video presents are the real monsters to be slan. As someone who had cancer, I resent autism, which I could have, being compared to cancer.
To me, these folks are like people who push bloodletting and galvinism on a person when what they really need is a good anti-biotic. They get in the way of understanding autism not as a crisis or a tragedy, but as something that influences how a person thinks and feels about the world. It's not something that has to be seen as something that traps a person.
That person is already there waiting to be understood.

Great post!

I have been drawing up a list of the best / most important documentaries we have watched ... I will pull my finger out now I've read your post and get my very similar blog written.

Thank you!

Michael Moore's latest is a gem - Capitalism: A love story

I think it was Age of Stupid that moved us to really take action.

We still regularly watch LOTR and Harry Potter or Star Trek though ... for positive messages.

Best wishes

Andrea!
I am writing a paper for my spec ed class and was talking about IBI in it, which made my mind wander and wonder how you were. You are doing so awesome with this challenge and you are being such a great support to Tristan. He is such a fortunate kid to have such caring parents who are committed to getting him the right therapies for him. Hang in there! Tristan is a talented, brilliant, capable kid and that partnered with the commitment from Odum and yourself, his future WILL be independent, find a passion and do what he loves, have meaningful relationships and be a valued member of society.
Let me know if there is anything I can pitch in with!
Keep fighting the good fight!

It is those moments when you are out and about and you see another parent in the same place as you are that you realise "I'm not alone" and they are good moments. Now matter how difficult it gets and how others judge we are not alone, It is infinitely reassuring.

Thanks for the article, it was great and made a lot of sense. Tristan's behaviour has definitely improved in the past few weeks and so has his sharing, turn taking and he's been flying through his IBI programs. So I really do think he was going a bit of dysregulation and he's made a few leaps. I actually got a book about RDI programs a few weeks ago at our library and once we're settled I think we going to start implementing some changes during our daily lives. From the small amount of research I've done on RDI I think it will be a really nice complement to Tristan's IBI programs.

Sometimes tantrums and meltdowns are dysregulation that happens because the brain is on the verge of making a new discovery and leap in development. Here is a good article on that phenomenon: http://www.horizonsdrc.com/resources/article-one-step-back-three-steps-forward-dysregulation-and-development

BTW, RDI ranks right up there with the gf/cf diet and homeschooling for my 20yo daughter in the autism spectrum! It helps you stay off the emotional rollercoaster by keeping in mind that parenting a child with ASD is a marathon, not a sprint. We are in this for the long haul, but it can be a race well run.

Yes I loved Super Size Me! He did another one: Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden that was pretty good too. Haven't heard of Finding the Freedmans, whats that one about? I thought about you when I watched the cove :) you'll really appreciate it. And Micheal Moore made both the Canadian and European systems out to be almost flawless examples of healthcare. He didn't mention the wait times we have here. ANd I'm sure you guys have issues too. But its still better than the US! He actually made France out to be the place to go! I think with society's obsession with reality TV we'll continue to see a rise in docs. If you like sci-fi, try out Battlestar Galactica if you haven't already. I'm addicted to it, its a TV series it was only 4 seasons, but its incredible! Lots of moral dilemma type stuff and things I think our society will have to deal with in the near future.
